Abstract
812,431. Pipe Joints. AEROQUIP CORPORATION. May 10, 1956, No. 14626/56. Class 99(1). A pipe joint comprises flanges 31 with cutting edges 33 which are forced into a sealing ring 13 of softer material than the edges 33 when the flanges are forced together by a surrounding tightening band 27. The flanges 31 are welded to the ends of the pipes 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, and may be either machined from solid metal or formed by rolling inwardly the end of a tubular blank. The edges 33 dig into the sides of the rib 36 of the ring 13 and the corners between the rib 36 and ring part 34 may be recessed to avoid jamming. In a modification, Fig. 9, the flanges 31 contact corners 46 formed by recesses 38b in the rib part 36b and, when forced together, pivot about the corners 46 to force the edges 33 to cut into the ring part 34b.
