Abstract

810,959. Feeding webs. ROTAX Ltd. April 17, 1957 [April 23, 19561. No. 12312/56. Class 100(1) A strip-tension device especially for use in a machine for coiling strips of metal foil and paper to form a non-cylindrical electric condenser, comprises fixed rods 16, 23 supporting the strip 11 and links 15 carrying a transverse stripengaging rod 18 forming a bight in the strip, the links 15 being connected by a spring 19, to an arm 14 pivoted about the same axis as the links 15 and actuated by a rotary cam 21 for varying the length of the bight in a manner related to the linear speed of the portion of strip approaching the winding former 10. The arm 14 is cranked and is pivoted with links 15 on the rod 16. The shaft 16 may carry a tubular roller, not shown, for engagement with the strip 11. A spring 22 holds a roller 20 on the arm 14 in contact with the cam 21. The cam 21 is driven through a chain sprocket 25 by a chain 27 driven from a pinion 31 on the shaft of the former 10. The former 10 comprises two similar halves a, b each having a flange c at one end. A shallow groove d is formed along both. halves to receive a removable strip clamping pin e. The narrow end of each half a, b engages a hole in the flange c of the other half to secure the halves together. When winding a multiplicity of strips. Fig. 3 (not shown), a strip-tension device is provided for each strip, the tensioning devices and strip supply rolls being arranged along arcs of circles concentric with the axis of the former 10.
