Abstract
810,928. Charging shaft furnaces. TESCH A.B., T. A. July 23, 1957 [Aug. 8, 1956], No. 23327/57. Class 51 (2). The distribution of stock during the charging of a shaft furnace from a hopper B is controlled by a first bell 4 which can be raised from a position closing the hopper, and a second bell 5 concentric with the first bell which can be raised within the upper bell 4 to allow stock to fall centrally, lowered to co-operate with a frusto-conical distributer 6 to charge stock round the periphery of the furnace, or lowered still further to allow stock to fall between it and the inner surface of the single distributer 6. A rotatably mounted loading hopper C supplies stock to a charging hopper B when a counterweighted bell 3 is lowered by a compressed-air cylinder 14. The upper bell 4 is moved from a lowered position where it forms a gas-tight closure with the wall 13 of hopper B to a charging position by a compressed-air cylinder 19. The lower bell 5 is moved by a compressedair cylinder 22 from a raised position within the bell 4 to an intermediate position, Fig. 2, in which it co-operates with a distributer 6. The bell 5 is lowered to a position within the distributer 6, Fig. 3, by a motor-driven wormgear which raises the cylinder 22.
