Transverse members may be associated with the member c and the resilient elements may be subdivided and connected in groups. The member c is of relatively inextensible material and may be in a plurality of parts which, in the case of a folding mattress, can be hingedly or flexibly connected and the tensile elements may be coiled springs or rubber.
