Abstract
Improved casing compositions containing epoxide resin consists of an epoxide resin having more than one terminal epoxy group per molecule esterified with not more than 20 per cent of the stoichiometric amount of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid containing at least six carbon atoms per molecule and a hardening agent, e.g. lead 2-ethyl hexoate, lead naphthenate or a polycarboxylic acid anhydride, e.g. phthalic anhydride. In examples: (1) 1,500 parts of an epoxide resin obtained by reacting 4 mol. 2 : 2-bis-(41-hydroxyphenyl) propane and 8 mol. epichlorhydrin were esterified with 75 parts first run fatty acids (C4-C9), 100 parts of the product were melted at 110 DEG C. with 10 parts lead 2-ethyl hexoate and the melt cast into rods and hardened at 130 DEG C.; (2) synourine acid was employed as the esterification acid and the product hardened with lead naphthenate; (3) oleic acid and phthalic anhydride were used.
