Abstract
809,004. Percussive drills. SANDVIKENS JERNVERKS A.B. June 24, 1955 [June 28, 1954], No. 18405/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 124. A hard metal rock drill cutting insert has a cutting edge and a substantially plane bottom surface and at least two layers wherein the mean grain size of the particles increases from layer to layer by at least 0À25Á in the direction from the cutting edge to the bottom and the boundaries between the layers as seen in a section containing such boundaries and perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and the bottom are substantially straight and parallel to the bottom surface. The boundary between fine grained and coarse grained layers may be parallel to the bottom or be upwardly convex and the grain size at the cutting edge may be between 1Á and 7u-(0À5 x % bending metal)Á while the grain size in the next adjacent layer may be between 6À5Á -(0À5 x % bondiug metal)Á and 5Á. The layers may merge into one another and the fine grained part may be divided into two or more zones along the length of the insert with coarse grained material between them. The fine and coarse grained material may have the same chemical analysis or the fine grained material may have more bonding metal than the coarse grained.
