Abstract
808,977. Joints in concrete beams and columns. REVESZ, S. Feb. 11, 1957 [Nov. 10, 1955], No. 32153/55. Class 20(4) A joint between a pre-cast beam 22 and a pre-cast concrete column 20 comprises a rigid metal connector 26 lying partially within and projecting laterally from the column on top of which rests a plurality of load transmitting strirrups 25 which are embedded in the beam. The column has a vertical slot 21 in which stirrups 23 are cast to form a bearing at its lower part. The beams have longitudinal slots 24 in their ends in which the stirrups 25 form a bearing at their upper parts. The connector 26 consists of a flat metal plate 27 having reinforcing bars 28 welded on both edges and is passed through the slot 21 in the column so that its projecting ends are received in slots 24 in the beams. The slots 21, 24 and remaining spaces between the column and beams are filled with concrete grout. In modifications, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown) a connector comprises a metal tube having diametrically opposite flat metal webs welded on the tube and reinforcing bars welded to the outer edges of the webs and is used where beams are subject to torsional forces. When a beam is to be joined to a column a vertical bar is welded to the end of the connector and cast or grouted in the column, Fig. 7 (not shown). Two beams at right angles are connected to a column, Fig. 8 (not shown) by casting two connectors in the column, each welded to the other at right angles, one of which has a vertical bar welded to it as in the case of a single beam connection. Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown) illustrate a connection of four beams at right angles to each other to a column having one connector deeper than the other with an aperture in it through which the smaller connector passes. A modified connector may consist of upper and lower bars connected by welded zig-zag transverse bars of smaller diameter. Fig. 11 (not shown).
