Abstract

808,387. Magnetostrictive transducers. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. April 12, 1957 [April 24, 1956], No. 12470/56. Class 40 (4). Two plates 1 and 2 of magnetostrictive material are inclined or at right angles to one another and are perpendicular to and connected at their ends by two parallel plates 3 and 4. The plates 1 and 2 carry coils 8 and 9 indicating the changes in stress in the plates transmitted from needle 5 mounted on plate 3. The needle 5 is deflected so as to compress plate 1 while tensioning plate 2 and vice versa, the non-parallel arrangement of plates 1 and 2 inhibiting their flexural modes of vibration. The plates may be of nickel ferrite.
