808,242. Machine-tool details. NICKLASSON, R. B. Jan. 10, 1957, No. 1041/57. Class 83(3). In a device for feeding bar stock &c., the work is advanced in predetermined steps along a guide-bed 1, by a fluid-pressure piston-andcylinder 3, 2, each of which is alternately held stationary and allowed to move in the feeding- direction. The cylinder 2, slidable in the bed 1, has a piston on rod 3 which carries a head 4 for engaging the work (not shown). The cylinder and piston-rod are connected respectively to grippers 26, 27 and 10, 11, normally pressed into contact with the bed by springs 12, 28 to prevent movement. Pressure-medium applied to the full-surface side of the piston causes the piston-rod to feed the work, the grippers 26, 27 attached to the cylinder preventing rearward movement of this member, and the grippers 10, 11, being released by pressure of the piston-rod on links 7, 8 carrying the grippers. On supply of pressure to the piston-rod side of the piston the cylinder moves in the direction of feed, the grippers 26, 27 being released by a bracket 16 on the cylinder acting on the scissors-type grippers through links 18, 19 and a pin 19<SP>1</SP>, and the piston being prevented from moving by the grippers 10, 11. The piston-stroke is limited by the cylinder-ends. The grippers may be released by manually-operated levers 13, 13 and 32, 33 for return movement. Eccentric disc-type grippers may be used to grip the bed.
