Abstract

807,193. Electric measuring systems. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO. Ltd. Feb. 26, 1957 [March 2, 1956], No. 6725/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 40 (1). In an acceleration, inclination or weightmeasuring instrument, three mutually perpendicular sensitive elements are mounted in a housing together with electromagnetic restoring devices, the current through which is a measure of the disturbing force. Each element consists of a metal rod, supported at the ends by ligaments which exert a negligible restoring force for small longitudinal displacements. Each element carries at its ends a differential condenser element. The latter are connected in an A.C. bridge circuit, the output of which, corresponding to element displacement, is applied to a restoring coil at each end of the element, reacting with a permanent magnet, to return the element to its rest position. To compensate for the effect of the restoring coil on the permanent magnet, a further coil, in series with the restoring coil is mounted round the magnet. Airgap changes due to temperature variations are compensated for. Specifications 804,847 and 804,849 are referred to.
