Abstract

806,994. Sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 31, 1957 [March 5, 1956], No. 3392/57. Class 112 In a sewing machine 10, Fig. 1, for forming a seam automatically along a predetermined contour; the means for presenting the edge of the work blank to the work feeding elements comprises a work-holder 16 shaped to the said contour and having a pair of spaced guide elements 22, 23 engaged with a continuous cam track 15 formed on a work-holder support 13. The requisite turning movements are thus imparted to the work-holder as the work is fed to the stitching elements. Auxiliary work feeding means comprising a motor 27, Fig. 4, mounted upon the armature of a solenoid 3, assist in rotating the work-holder when a particular part of the contour having the form of a circular arc about the guide element 23 is reached. The operation of the limit switch LS2 by the guide element 22 starts the motor and energizes the solenoid to bring the pin 30, eccentrically disposed on the flange 27, into driving engagement with one of the apertures 25 disposed in a hub 24 carrying the guide element 23. Rotation of the work-holder continues until the element 22 engages the limit switch LS1. Control means are described providing automatic sewing of a complete seam.
