Abstract

805,909. Suction cleaners. RAND, S. D. Sept. 24, 1957 [Oct. 15, 1956], No. 31351/56. Class 8(1). A hand-held suction cleaner comprises a motor driven fan located in a housing 15, Fig. 1, and energised at will by a dry battery 12, Fig. 3, mounted within a handle 10 or from a mains supply according to the position of a sliding switch 79, Fig. 2, carried on one side of the handle. Pins 65, 66 located in a socket 67 when engaged by a power plug 68 convey power to the primary winding 63 of a transformer within the handle 10, the secondary winding of which is connected to one pole of switch 79 and to a second switch 29 on the handle which when in one on-position connects the chosen current supply to the fan motor 39 and in the other on-position connects the supply to a lamp 54 located between a reflector 53 and a lens 52. The fan draws through an annular brush 35 and discharges through an outlet 36 to which is connected a dust collecting bag (not shown). In a modification an automatic relay cuts out the battery when the mains connection is made. Specification 795,118 is referred to.
