Abstract
805,094. Cold-cathode tubes. HIVAC Ltd. March 30, 1955 [Feb. 16, 1955], No. 4690/55. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(c)] A switching circuit includes a discharge tube having a group of five equi-spaced wire or rod electrode elements arranged in a gas-filled envelope. In the arrangement shown the central electrode a is connected through a load resistance r to a source of operating potential of +300 v. and acts as an anode. The two next adjacent electrodes t1 and t2 are connected together and act as transfer control electrodes, being also connected through a load resistance r3 to a source of biasing potential of +50 v. and through a capacitor c to a pulse source. The outside electrodes k1 and k2 are connected through respective load circuits c1 r1 and c2 r2 to the earthed negative terminal of the operating potential source and act as cathodes. An output terminal can be connected to one or each of the cathodes. A discharge existing between the anode a and one of the cathodes k1 or k2 is transferred to the other cathode by applying either positive or negative-going pulses to the transfer electrodes. Each electrode may act as an anode, transfer control electrode or cathode depending on the circuit connections thereto, and the Specification describes seven further possible arrangements.
