Abstract
804,865. Filter presses. ASSOCIATED PORTLAND CEMENT MANUFACTURES, Ltd. April 3, 1957 [April 12, 1956], No. 11220/56. Class 46. In a filter press having a series of trays or plates slidably supported for to and fro movement on a guide track or tracks, such as parallel beams 3, the plates P when in the closed position are separable by latches 15 freely suspended at intervals from an endless chain, &c. 10 having one run parallel to the path of movement of the plates, cam elements, such as projecting pins 6, associated with the plates holding the latches in an inoperative position when the plates are in close relationship until a latch reaches the last plate of the series. The undersides of the latches are formed with cam portions 18 which ride over the closely spaced pins 6 but allow the latches to drop when the last plate is reached, this end plate being thus separated from its neighbour. One plate, P<SP>1</SP> is secured to the crosshead H of the ram R of the press to move with it and when the ram reaches its right hand position the plate actuates an electric switch 40 to start the drive of the chain 10. When the last plate moves it actuates another switch 43 to stop the drive motor. In modifications, a lug on the top of the plate carries the projection or projections to be engaged by the latches and also rollers by which the plates are suspended from either an I-section beam or a pair of inwardly facing channel beams.
