Class 100(4) A margin stop device for typewriters especially when adapted for use also as teleprinters or tape perforators, has a stop bar with at least three margin stops, the centre one of which is always connected to one of the end stops for simultaneous adjusting displacement therewith relative to the bar and the action of which can be cancelled by a setting lever so that the length of line typed can be varied simultaneously with the selection of the typewriter function to be used, e.g. a shorter line length is selected automatically when the selector lever is moved to tape punching position. Fig. 1 shows the device set for normal typing, i.e. the full line length 49, Fig. 4, is available between stops 32, 33. On pivoting keyboard lever 1, Fig. 1, about 15 in the direction of the arrow, perforator 6 is engaged through clutch 5 and linkages 4, 3, 2, centre stop 10 is depressed and set in the position shown in Fig. 4, through linkages 9, Figs. 4 and 1, 8, Figs. 1, 7, 2, and locking shoulder 11 is moved under margin release key 13 to lock it. The setting of stop 10 limits the available line length to 44, Fig. 4, between lugs 45 and 46 of stops 32 and 10. Stop 10 is adjustably attached to stop 32 by rod 42.
