Abstract
803,457. Furnace walls and hearths. SCHMIDT'SCHE HEISSDAMPF G.m.b.H. April 17, 1957, No. 12562/57. Class 51 (2). [Also in Group XIII] A glass melting furnace of the tank type has a framework of spaced cooling tubes 1 extending between lower and upper headers 4 and 7 respectively, the tank being lined with plastic refractory 12, and the walls 8 and roof 5 with masonry or fireclay. The lining 12 is so dimensioned that, in operation, a solid layer 13 of glass forms thereon. The tubes 1 are provided with lugs 15 engaging the lining materials. Risers 16 connect header 7 with a steam drum 18, which is also connected to header 4 by downcomers 17. Alternatively, the cooling tube framework is connected to a waste heat boiler associated with the furnace. Burner ports 19 and gas discharge ports 20 are formed either by bending tubes 1 or by providing top and bottom headers 21 defining said ports.
