Abstract
803,325. Gramophone pick-ups. GARRARD ENGINEERING & MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Oct. 6, 1955 [Oct. 6, 1954], No. 28798/54. Class 40 (2). A gramophone electrical pick-up for playing various types of disc records comprises a voltage generating mechanism (not shown) contained in a housing 1 on which is mounted to be slidable in one plane and pivotable about an axis at right angles to the plane a bracket 2 carrying two or more stylus levers 10, 10a bearing respective styli of different tip radius from each other, and a coupling 12 extending from the voltagegenerating mechanism and arranged to be selectively engaged by either or any of the levers; change-over of the stylus is effected by sliding the bracket to disengage a stylus lever from the coupling, pivoting the bracket to select the required stylus, and by a reverse sliding engaging the selected stylus lever with the coupling 12. As shown, the bracket 2 comprises a plate 3 having two slots 4, 5 engaged by studs 7, 7a in the housing 1 by which arrangement the sliding and pivotal movements are determined, and two parallel arms 6 to which by holes or grooves the stylus levers 10, 10a are removably secured. The coupling 12 may comprise an arm 13 terminating in notch or recess 14 into which fits the selected stylus lever, and the inoperate stylus lever is accommodated in a respective recess 18 in the housing 1. A spring 15 compressed betweeen a mounting bracket 19 by which the pick-up is fixed to a pick-up arm and a manual selection knob 17 biases the bracket 2 to either of its operative positions. The invention is applicable to either magnetic or piezoelectric transducers. Specification 803,326 is referred to.
