802,125. Batteries. NAPIER & SON Ltd., D. March 15, 1957 [March 16, 1956], No. 8381/56. Class 53. A battery is heated by electric elements in the form of strips of sprayed metal incorporated in the base or wall of the casing. In Fig. 1, the base of the casing is formed with a groove 11 bounded by thicker portions 13 of the casing. The groove accommodates an insulating slab 14 which carries a heating element 15, shown in plan in Fig. 2, and consisting of thin layers of sprayed metal 16, for example copper, joined in series by thicker metal bars 17 connected to terminals 19 to which current can be supplied from an outside source. The layers 16 may be applied to the base of the casing instead of to the slab 14 which is then placed in position and secured by adhesive.
