Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formul <FORM:0801991/IV (b)/1> and <FORM:0801991/IV (b)/2> wherein R is hydrogen or a non-polymerisable alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkoxy, cycloalkoxy or aryloxy radical, and R1 and R11 are hydrogen or non-polymerisable organic radicals. Compounds having the formula I are prepared by reacting 1 mol. of a 1 : 2-dicarbonyl compound of the formula R1-CO-CO-R11 with two mols. of a carboxylic acid amide or carbamic acid ester of the formula RCONH2 in a neutral or weak alkaline solution. Compounds having the formula II are prepared by reacting 1 mol. of a 1 : 2-dicarbonyl compound R1-CO-CO-R11 with three mols. of a carboxylic acid amide or carbamic acid ester of the formula RCONH2 in a weak acid solution, or by reacting 1 mol. of a compound having the formula I with 1 mol. of a carboxylic acid amide or carbamic acid ester of the formula RCONH2 in a weak acid solution. Specified 1 : 2-dicarbonyl compounds are glyoxal, trichlorophenylglyoxal and diacetyl. The examples describe the preparation of glyoxal diurethane, glyoxal triurethane, trichlorophenylglyoxal triurethane, glyoxal dibenzamide and glyoxal diacetamide.
