Abstract
801,545. Shoe bottom presses. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. (United Shoe Machinery Corporation). Nov. 16, 1956 [Nov. 17, 1955], No 32895/55. Class 17(1) A device for supporting a sole and shoe while they are pressed together comprises a plurality of layers of resilient rubber similar in size, lying one on another, and supporting an upper shoe bottom pressing pad, one of the layers 24 having a forepart shaped opening 26, 28 therein in an area underlying the forepart of a shoe being operated on, the construction being such that the layers may be superimposed within a pad box with the layer having the opening occupying a chosen one of different selected positions with relation to the top and bottom of the assembly of layers. The bottom parts 10, 12, 14 of the box are angularly adjustable by means of handles 16, 18, and support the plurality of layers 20 of resilient material, e.g. rubber, which in turn support the forepart 32, shank 34, and heel 36, sections of the shoe bottom pressing pad forming a harder rubber. One layer 24 of the plurality of layers has a hole 26 extending through the shank to form a narrow slot 28, and upward bulges 30 at each side of the slot. Hole 26 underlies the forepart 32 of the upper pad, and is preferably of the shape and size of the forepart of the smallest shoe to be operated upon or somewhat smaller. Layer 24 is arranged at the top of the pluraity of layers, as in Fig. 2, if the shoe bottom is to be well rounded, intermediately, as in Fig. 1, to give lesser amounts of wrap, or at the bottom if the shoe bottom is to be flat. Specification 408,953 is referred to.
