Abstract
800,993. Two-part couplings. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Dec. 23, 1954 [Dec. 24, 1953]. No. 35888/53. Class 38 (1). A connector capable of withstanding pressure differentials comprises insulated conductors 17 located in a flexible tube 16 secured at its ends to shells 10, 19 enclosing plug and socket connectors which include composite bodies of molybdenum disilicide and alumina and which seal the ends of the connector, the sealing being effected as described in Specification 800,992 or Specification 800,991. Instead of providing sockets in shell 19, the latter can be secured to the casing of an apparatus and ceramic beads or spacers may replace the insulating coverings 18 on conductors 17. Fig. 2 shows a connector wherein the conductors 41, 42 are concentric, insulating spacers 40, 43 being used to support and insulate them. A number of units as in Figj 1 or 2 may be joined by unions to form an assembly (Fig. 3, not shown). The flexible tube may be pressurized or evacuated.
