Abstract

800,508. Carburetters; humidifying air. SOC. HYGROTECHNIQUE. June 6, 1956 [June 11, 1955], No. 17492/56. Class 7(3) [Also in Groups XII and XXVI] In a device for humidifying the intake air of a combustion engine, a water reservoir is provided with a first inlet pipe, the inner end of which is arranged to remain at a substantially constant distance below the surface of the water, and an outlet conduit for connection to the combustion engine, between the mouth of which and the surface of the water is disposed a perforated plate, and a second inlet pipe is provided the inner end of which is positioned adjacent the bottom of the reservoir and through which air is admitted to the reservoir when the intake suction of the engine exceeds a predetermined value. A carburetter comprising a nozzle 12 is associated with a water container 1. Thus water and air is drawn into the carburetter through the pipe 8. The air enters through a tube 4 which is carried by a flexible insert 3 and has a float 5 at its free end. Make up air may be provided by a tube 26. In a modification (Fig. 2) there may be two floats at the free end of the tube 4. The free end of the tube may comprise two branches as shown or a single tube as in Fig. 1. In another modification (not shown) there may be two tubes projecting from opposite sides of the container.
