Abstract

800,366. Contact members for switches. SIMPLEX ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 20, 1955 [July 30, 1954], No. 22239/54. Class 38 (5). A bridging contact in an electric switch moves from the general direction in which the fixed contacts face and on abutting the fixed contacts moves transversely to effect a wiping action. As shown, a bridging contact 10 is mounted on a support 19 by a screw 21 and is biased by a spring 26. The screw has a frusto-conical part 24 whose larger diameter is the same as that of the hole in order to locate the bridge when the switch is open. One fixed contact 17 is slightly inclined so that after contact has been made and the bridging contact 10 has been disengaged from the part 24, the inclined face causes it to slide downwards, wiping the fixed contacts. The part 24 recentralizes the bridge on opening the switch. Alternative arrangements include (a) both fixed contacts being inclined, (b) the part 24 forming part of the support 19, (c) the transverse movement being assisted by the bridging contact moving along an inclined pin on the support 19.
