Abstract
799,547. Electrically heated flexible hoses. HERON, A. G. Oct. 22, 1956 [Oct. 25, 1955], No. 30443/55. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XXVIII] An electrically heated flexible hosepipe incorporates a resistor comprising an inner wire helix and an outer wire helix electrically connected together at one end. As shown, a hosepipe comprises a pliable body portion 10 having wire helices 12 and 13 partially embedded in its inner and outer surfaces respectively, the helix 13 also being partially embedded in a pliable outer covering 11. Two ends of the helices are united, e.g. by spot welding, and the two opposite ends 17 and 18 are taken to a moulded terminal block 14 mounted on the external surface of the hosepipe, so that the helices may be connected to a supply source, e.g. of low voltage. The wire may be of steel or stainless steel. The inner helix may constitute the primary heating element and may be made either of thinner wire than the outer helix, or of metal, e.g. steel, having a higher resistance than the metal, e.g. copper, of the outer helix. Specification 756,787 is referred to.
