Abstract
799,004. Transformers. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. May 16, 1956 [June 1, 1955], No. 15312/56. Class 38 (2). In a single-phase transformer which provides an output voltage variable in steps, one leg 11 of a three-legged core carries a regulating autotransformer winding 14 fed from the supply voltage, the output of this winding being tapped off by a switch 15 and fed to a primary power transformer winding 18, 18<SP>1</SP> disposed about the other two legs 12, 13. The secondary power transformer winding 19, 19<SP>1</SP> is also divided about the legs 12, 13 and supplies the load which may be traction motors 20. The arrangement provides an improvement on a prior art arrangement (Fig. 1, not shown) where the power transformer windings are disposed on one leg only leaving the third leg without windings, this improvement allowing the core leg crosssections to be altered and the total core weight reduced.
