Abstract
797,573. Glass compositions. ZEISSSTIFTUNG, C., [trading as JENAER GLASWERK SCHOTT & GEN.]. July 4, 1956 [July 5, 1955], No. 20722/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 56. Glass for optical purposes contains at least 45 per cent of aluminium oxide, 25-45 per cent of calcium oxide and 1-17 per cent of alkali, the calcium oxide being replaceable wholly or in part by the oxides of strontium, barium, magnesium or a mixture of barium and strontium. The balance is formed from the following, in weight per cent, SiO 2 or GeOz, 1-15 ; MgO, 0-5; Sr+BaO, 0-12; ZnO, 0-4; Bi 2 O 3 , LazOs, Ta 2 O 5 or ZrO 2 , 0-5. LiO 2 is preferably used up to 7 per cent. Up to 3 per cent of As 2 O 3 may be added. A number of specific examples are given.
