A device for automatically recording meter values on a record strip comprises at least two identical printing mechanisms operating in line across the strip and means for separating the strip into as many bands as there are printing mechanisms, or for weakening the strip longitudinally to facilitate such separation, whereby in use identical information is recorded on each of the bands. The printing wheels 11, Fig. 1, of two associated counters, A, B, are mounted on a common shaft 13 and are driven through transfer pinions 10 on a shaft 12 from a spring 6- continuously tensioned by a motor 4. The drive from the spring 6 to the shaft 12 includes a differential gear 7, 8, 15, 16 and the gearing 14 which is also connected through gearing 18 to a totalizer 19. The gear 8 of the differential is fixed to a control shaft 9. A mechanism 20, 21 controls the planet gear carrier 16 to allow stepwise movement of the counters A, B in accordance with the quantity being measured. A record strip 1 passes from a roller 2 between the printing hammers 28 and the wheels 11. The hammers 28 and a knife 37, Fig. 2, are mounted on a shaft 27 which is controlled through a lever 26, Fig. 1, by a cam 24 on the shaft 9. A transverse blade 31 in front of the wheels 11 of the counter B is controlled jointly by a cam 25 on the shaft 9 and a latch mechanism 33, 32, 29 operated by an electromagnet 34. The shaft 9 also actuates the record strip feeding mechanism 36 through a crank 35. The arrangement is such that the counters A, B step forward under the control of the mechanism 20, 21 and at intervals the mechanism 23, 22 is operated to allow the shaft 9 one complete revolution. The cam 24 actuates the lever 26 to effect operation of the hammers 28 and the knife 37 which divides the strip into two longitudinal. strips. A gear segment 17 on the shaft 9 then rotates the shaft 13 to effect zeroizing of the counters A, B and the record strip feed mechanism 36 is operated. The latch 33, 32, 29 locks the knife 31 against operation when the lever 29 is freed by rotation of the cam 25. At larger intervals when the shaft 9 is released for its revolution the electromagnet 34 is at the same time energized to release the latch 33, 32, 29 so that the cam 25 releases the knife 31 for operation by the spring 30, thereby dividing the right-hand strip into portions. The left-hand strip passes round the roller 3 and the right-hand strip portions pass into a trough 42 in the casing 38 from which they can be removed through the opening 41, Fig. 2.
