Abstract
796,358. Preserving live worms. BUSS, D. R. Sept. 14, 1955, No. 26329/55. Class 49. [Also in Group XVII] A mixture for maintaining worms such as earthworms, sandworms and bloodworms, intended for soil improvement and for fishing bait, in good condition, comprises finely divided cellulose, fine alluvium and water, which latter is largely absorbed in the cellulose. The mixture may include chopped spongy material and a coarselyground cereal. A suitable preparation contains 45 parts of wood pulp paper passing a <1>/16 in. screen, 55 parts of alluvium passing a <1>/32 in. screen, 2 parts of cellulose sponge particles passing a <1>/2 in. screen and 10 parts of coarse oatmeal. The worms and the mixture are filled into a bag 3 of waterproof material such as polythene and constructed to keep upright when filled; there is a row of small drain and air inlet holes 8 horizontally round the bag, a short distance from its base 4, and there may also be vertical rows of similar holes 9.
