Abstract
796,282. Moulds for concrete units. CONCRETE, Ltd., and WOOD, K. M. Aug. 4, 1954 [Aug. 4, 1953], No. 21461/53. Class 87(2). [Also in Group X] A mould for casting concrete units comprises smooth pressed steel plates smoothly joined together end to end and lateral partitions locatable within the mould to separate it into sections, the plates having in cross-section the shape desired for the cast units and having no sudden changes in contour or other irregularity in the parts corresponding to the normally visible parts of the cast units. The plates have a cross-section as shown for example in Fig. 2, and two or more moulds are arranged side by side on a floor or vibrating table and joined by wedge-shaped shutters 16. Similar shutters 17 are placed on the outside walls so that the upper edges of the moulds are defined by the shutters. The former shown in Fig. 2, with two U-shaped depressions 14 joined by a raised part 15, is for casting arched roofing units, but other shapes may be cast, e.g., plain flat planks with slightly bevelled edges. Reinforcing wires 18 are stretched along the lengths of the depressions 14, passing through the partitions. After the concrete has set the wires are released at one end and the tension in them causes the castings to slide along the moulds and makes their removal easy. Concrete is poured in to the level of the tops of the shutters 16, 17 which are afterwards removed to leave grouting grooves in the cast unit.
