Abstract
794,907. Composite pipes. LORRAINEESCAUT. July 21, 1954 [Nov. 25, 1953], No. 21287/54. Class 99(2). In a method of lining a hollow body a liner of thermoplastic material is formed into substantially the final shape thereof and subsequently deformed mechanically in the cold state, in such a way that at least one of the dimensions of the transverse cross-section of the liner is reduced, and then inserted within the body, the assembly being then heated to cause the liner to recover the original dimensions thereof and to be urged into engagement with the interior of the body. As shown, thermoplastic liner tubes 2 are fed one by one to a channel 3 and then to a roll-type mill 4 in which the tubes are reduced in diameter. Each tube is introduced into a steel tube 5 fed into a channel 6, and each assembly of tube and liner is then passed to a heating chamber 8. In modifications (a) the deformed liners are fed to a machine and have helically wound thereon a steel strip, and (b) concrete pipes are moulded around the deformed liners ; in both cases a final heating expands the liners into engagement with the wound strips or concrete pipes.
