[Also in Group XV] A sports racket is made by applying longitudinal strands 6 and windings 7 of glass fibre to a wooden core 3, 4 in the shape of the racket, pouring thermosetting (e.g. polyester) resin into the cavity of a lower mould half 2, inserting the prepared core in the resin, pouring further resin, closing the mould halves 1, 2, and applying heat and pressure to cure the resin. Preferably the proportions are one part of resin, one part of glass fibre, and two parts of wood, all by weight. The mould may be pre-heated and is treated with chromium or silicone resin to improve separability. The glass fibre is preferably treated with chronium sulphate.
