Abstract

794,826. Portable boring-machines. BUMA ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and MALIA, A. P. Feb. 7, 1956 [Feb. 19, 1955], No. 5014/55. Class 83 (3). A portable boring-machine comprises a base 1 presenting a face 7 at right-angles to the axis of the boring-spindle 2 and a transverse face adapted to mount the machine on cylindrical work 12. As applied to boring bolt-holes in the flanges 13, 14 of a propeller shaft 12 with the boring-bar described in Specification 590,408, the shell 2 of the boring-bar is fed through the base 1 by a feed-nut rotated on a lead screw 4 by an electric motor 5 mounted on the base and driving through a shaft 6 and a gear-box 3. The transverse face may be formed on a packing- block 9 secured to the shaft by a chain 11, and which may be adjustable to vary the distance of the boring-spindle from the shaft.
