Abstract

794,822. Wearing-apparel. PARMENTER E. H. Aug. 20, 1954, No. 24328/54. Classes 63 and 141 [Also in Groups IX, X, XVI and XVII] A method of constructing a garment or other article comprises printing or weaving outlines of panels on a length of fabric, forming the fabric during weaving with apertures between the panels to facilitate separation of the panels from the fabric length, providing means woven, processed or applied along the edges of the panels whereby the separated panels can be disconnectibly fastened together at their edges, and so connecting a suitable assembly of panels to form the desired article. Fig. 11 shows a length of cloth 75 imprinted with panels 76...79 having apertures 104 between the panels to facilitate their separation and holes 80 along their edges; the panels can be joined along their edges by threading a filament through the holes. The panels may be of any suitable shape e.g. polygonal, truncated triangular with a curved base, segmental, &c., and may be reinforced adjacent the line of apertures. Instead of the holes 80, loops may be formed along the edges of the panels. Rectangular panels may be used to form a stole, Fig. 5 (not shown), or a skirt, Fig. 7, the ends 44, 45 being joined to complete the skirt Pleating may be effected by threading a strand 47 (Fig. 8, not shown) through the loops 46 in the upper edge to form flat folds. By providing a row of loops 99 the skirt may be shortened by folding up the edge 100 and securing the loops thereon to the loops 99. A sleeveless jacket, Fig. 9 (not shown) may be constructed from panels of truncated triangular shape. Rectangular panels may be employed for making capes, coats, jackets, panels of truncated triangular shape may be used to make jackets, skirts, stoles, hats and dresses. The units of a conventional suit pattern may be imprinted as panels on a length of cloth as set out above, so that after separation they may be disconnectibly connected by filaments threaded through the holes or loops at the edges to make the suit. Specification 710,953 is referred to.
