Abstract
In the manufacture of shaped articles from viscose by extrusion there is added to the viscose at least 0.5 per cent by weight, calculated on the cellulose, of a compound of the formula <FORM:0794780/IV (a)/1> in which R represents an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain of at least 8 carbon atoms, n is 2, 3 or 4, and the sum of x and y is at least 5, neither x nor y being zero. "Ethomeen" (Registered Trade Mark) is specified as a suitable additive of this type. Products of improved physical properties are obtained, including threads which can be crimped by treatment with boiling water. Comparative examples are given. Specification 709,986 is referred to.
