A change-speed gear for a Diesel locomotive comprises aligned input and output shafts b, c; two parallel countershafts d, e; change-speed gear trains r, o; p, n, and s, o; q, n, between each respective countershaft and the output shaft c and each controlled by a separate friction clutch t; and a hydrodynamic torque converter f, having a permanently fixed reactor j, between an input gear train h, i and on countershaft d. A hydrodynamic coupling g may also be arranged between a second input gear train h, m and the other countershaft e.
