Abstract

792,781. Valves. SCOVILL MANUFACTURING CO. Jan. 18, 1956 [Jan. 20, 1955], No. 1717/56. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] A valve assembly for an aerosol bomb comprises a tubular casing 15 containing a chamber 16 having a valve seat 28 at one end cooperating with a valve 17 having a stem 19 extending through the seat, a casing closure member 20 capable of limited axial telescoping movement relative to the casing to engage the stem and unseat the valve and a valve stem enlargement 38 restricting the valve opening during such unseating, the extent of such unseating being substantially less than the extent, greater than the axial length of the enlargement, to which the valve may be unseated when the closure member is not on the casing, whereby the valve opening is enlarged. When the member 20 is.depressed to engage the flange 33 the valve 17 opens against the spring 18 but the enlargement 38 allows aerosol to ba dispensed slowly past the valve and through the nozzle 47. To permit the container to be re-filled with aerosol the member 20 may be pulled off the casing 14 by making an enlargement 41 on a resilient tubular part 39 pass over a shoulder 24 on the casing. The stem 19 may now be depressed in a filling machine sufficiently to move the enlarged portion 38 completely out of the seat 28. The casing part 15 and the valve and stem may be made of nylon which will be harder than the material, e.g. polyethylene of the part 14.
