Abstract
792,516. Conveyer belt cleaning devices. THOMSON, C. Dec. 10, 1956 [Sept. 19, 1955], No. 26731/55. Class 78 (1). In a conveyer belt cleaning device of the kind comprising a row of wiper blades 8 arranged to bear against the return run 1 of the belt, each wiper blade is of composite construction comprising a plate or strip of rubber 11 secured to one or both sides of a rigid plate 10 so that one edge of both the plate or strip 11 and the plate 10 are presented to the belt. The plate 10 is preferably of brass so that it wears freely and does not damage the belt. In order to take up wear each wiper blade is mounted pivotally on the end of a rod 7, the rods 7 being secured to a common shaft 4 which is biased to urge the blades against the belt. The biasing means comprises a compression spring 15 acting between a bracket 16 and the head 17 of a bolt 18, the head 17 in turn being in contact with an adjustable setscrew 25 screwed into a boss 24 formed on the end of an arm 23 projecting from a disc 21 secured to the shaft 4. The screw 25 is adjusted to set and maintain the desired pressure of the blades while the position of a nut 19 on the bolt 18 determines the amount of movement owing to wear which can take place before adjustment of screw 25 is again needed. The disc 21 is secured adjustably to a flange on the shaft 4 by bolts 22, each of which can be passed through any one of a number of holes in the disc.
