Abstract

792,351. Moulds for ceramic articles. SHENANGO CHINA, Inc. Nov. 25, 1955 [Dec. 27, 1954], No. 33888/55. Class 87(2). Wet clay is pressed between absorbent, e.g., plaster, dies 10, 11 which have a gap 52 leading from the mould cavity 50 to a gutter cavity 51 provided with relief orifices 65 which may be fitted with interchangeable plugs 66 to allow metered relief of excess clay, thus equalizing the pressure applied over the mould cavity. The movement of the dies is limited by surfaces 23, 24. During pressing, water may be sucked from the dies through pipes 30, 31. After pressing, air may be supplied first to the pipes 31 and then to the pipes 30 to facilitate the release of the moulded piece, and the excess clay. The cavity 51 may be given a coating 60 of a moisture barrier, e.g., varnish.
