Abstract

A composition for use e.g. as a paint, varnish, or other coating, or for moulding or laminating purposes, consists essentially of an organopolysiloxane of the general formula RnSiO 4-n,/2 wherein each R is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halogenated hydrocarbon radical or halophenoxymethyl radical, an n has an average value from 0.9 to 1.7, and 0.001 to 5.0 per cent by weight, calculated on the weight of the siloxane, of indium added as an indium carboxylate, and with or without 0.001 to 5.0 per cent by weight of the siloxane of cerium added as a cerium carboxylate. The resins used contain e.g. methyl, ethyl, butyl, octadecyl, vinyl, allyl, phenyl, naphthyl, xenyl, cyclohexenyl, cyclopentyl, cyclohexyl, tolyl, xylyl, benzyl, tetrafluoroethyl, perfluorovinyl, dichlorophenyl, a ,a ,a -trifluorotolyl and/or halophenoxymethyl (as described in Specification 787,046, [Group IV(b)], radicals. Salts of indium and cerium specified are acetates, adipates, benzoates, citrates, cyanacetates, fumarates, lactates, salicylates, stearates, toluylates, naphthenates, hexoates and naphthoates. Higher molecular weight acids, e.g. naphthenates, are preferred when the compositions are to be used for paints, and lower ones, e.g. octoates, for laminating purposes. Examples are given.
