Abstract
792,068. Electrostatic separators. FEIFEL. E., and PROCHAZKA, R. Nov. 25, 1955 [Dec. 10, 1954], No. 33900/55. Class 117 Apparatus for separating suspended dust particles from gas comprises at least one tube through which the gas bearing the dust passes, the particles of dust being charged by friction with the tube, the charged particles then being attracted to an assembly of earthed or charged plates 4 from which the particles fall ready for collection. In Fig. 1, dustbearing gas is given a vortical flow before its entry into an inlet 9 or during its passage through tubes 3 which are supported by a partition 1 between a header 8 and a separation chamber 2. The dust particles fall into collectors 5 and the dust-free gas passes through an outlet 6. In order to reduce the turbulence of the gas within the chamber 2 sufficiently to permit the dust particles to be attracted to the plates 4, the volume of the plate assembly is made greater than one third and less than twice the volume of gas passing through the tubes 3 per second. Fig. 2 shows how the tubes 3 are connected to alternate plates b, d, f, h and to the negative pole of a generator 7 which may produce 10-20 KV; the remainder of the plates are connected to the other pole of the generator. In'Fig. 3 (not shown), the tubes are connected to alternate members of the plate assembly, the other plates being earthed. The plates may be smooth or corrugated or may have recesses. The tubes may be lined with suitable fabric or paint to increase the electrostatic charge imparted to the particles.
