Abstract
791,705. Spray-producers. UNION CARBIDE CORPORATION, [formerly UNION CARBIDE & CARBON CORPORATION]. Oct. 19, 1955 [Oct. 21, 1954], No. 29804/55. Class 69 (3). A detonation gun for heating and spraying powders for such purposes as coating surfaces &c. consists of an open-ended elongated barrel 10 extending from a chamber 30 housing valves for the introduction of successive charges of a detonatable gaseous mixture, and means 42 for igniting the charges at successive intervals. A powder entry tube 50 extends axially into the barrel and is surrounded by concentric cooling fluid sleeves 52, 54, Fig. 2, having cooling fluid inlet and outlet ports 56, 58. A cooling water jacket 14 surrounds the barrel. Fuel and oxidant are supplied through valve controlled ports 22, 24, and a purging gas is fed through a valve-controlled port 36 in the intervals between successive detonations. Powder is delivered in a gas stream from a dispenser 61, and the feed tube is of sufficient length to prevent the surge of detonating gases from causing a break in the powder supply to the gun barrel.
