Abstract
790,811. Photographic image transfer by heat. AGFA AKT.-GES FUR PHOTOFABRIKATION. Feb. 9. 1956 [Feb. 11, 1955], No. 4116/56. Class 98(2) An exposed silver halide emulsion layer containing a developing substance is heated in contact with a transfer layer containing a diazo compound and also a salt containing a heavy metal in the anion and if desired an oxidizing agent, to form a laterally correct image in azo dye in the transfer layer. Acids or acid salts may be used to increase activity of transfer. The emulsion may be of silver chloride bromide or iodide, or mixtures thereof, and may be of any sensitivity, gradation, or silver content; and numerous colloids for the layers, developing substances, diazo compounds, heavy metal salts, oxidizing agents and other materials for use therein are quoted. Heating may be effected in a hot press or drying drum at 50-180‹C., preferably at 80-150‹C. Six examples furnish quantitative details for production of the two layers, thus in Example 1 30 G. of 1 - amino - 2 - naphthol, 30 G of potassiummetabisulphite and 45 G. of acetic acid are added to one litre of silver halide emulsion which may contain other additives and the mixture is cast on a paper support and dried; and for the transfer layer 8 G. of diazotized 1 - amino - 2 - naphthol - 4 - sulphonic acid, .4 G. of ammonium molybdate, 1 G. of sodium perborate, 80cc. of 10 per cent sulphuric acid, 500 cc. of 10 per cent polyvinyl alcohol and 100 cc. of glycerin with 500 cc. of water are mixed and cast similarly. After exposure the two layers are heated in contact preferably at 110-135‹C. for 5-20 seconds in a hot press and separated to give 'a bluish violet image in the transfer layer. A similar heat transfer process operating without the presence of the heavy metal salt is described. The manner of exposure of the silver halide emulsion layer so that the transferred image produced therefrom may be laterally correct is not described. Specification 655,273 is referred to.
