790,393. Thermometers. CKD-DUKLA NARODNI PODNIK. Feb. 24, 1956, No: 5797/56. Class 97(3) Apparatus for measuring the temperature of hot gas comprises a conduit 2 which is connected at one end to the suction side of a pump 6 and has at its other end a nozzle-shaped opening 3 in the hot gas, a first pressure gauge 11 for measuring the pressure drop across the opening, means arranged between the pressure gauge and the pump to impart' to the gas, flowing through the conduit, a constant temperature, an orifice 4 within the conduit at a point where the gas has attained the said temperature, a second pressure gauge 10 for measuring the pressure drop across the orifice and means such as a valve 5 for adjusting the suction exerted by the pump. The means for bringing the flowing gas to a constant temperature may be a jacket 7 through which, for example, boiling water is circulated. It is shown that, if the flow is adjusted to give a constant reading on the manometer 10, the reading on the manometer 11 is proportional to gas temperature. If high temperatures are to be measured the portion of the conduit 2 in the hot gas may have a cooling jacket.
