Abstract
790,233. Machinery guards. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 22, 1956 [April 4, 1955], No. 9808/55. Class 80 (4). A guard for a circular saw 2 or the like projecting above a table 1 comprises for each side of the saw a set of overlapping rotatable discs 16, 10, 13 carried on pivoted arms 15, 6, 11 so as to be displaceable, e.g. against gravity, by material fed to the saw in the direction A. The lower portion of the saw 2 is totally enclosed beneath the table 1, and a fixed upper shield 3 having a rib 4 coplanar with the saw may be mounted on a tubular arm (not shown). The two discs 10 are mounted on a spindle 9 carried by a pair of arms 6 pivoted to the rib 4, the spindle 9 riding in a slot in an extension 5 of the rib 4. The two discs 13 are rotatably carried by a pair of arms 11 pivoted on the spindle 9 and rest on the table 1. The two discs 16 also rest on the table 1 and are rotatably carried by a composite arm 15 bifurcated to pivot on the rib 4. The arm 15 fills the space between the discs 16 and has a quadrantal portion 17 preventing access to the saw. It is stated that the discs 16, 10, 13 may be replaced by other analogous guard members.
