Abstract

789,967. Moulding rubber rings &c. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. Sept. 3, 1954, No. 20331/56. Divided out of 789,965. Class 87(2). Relates to a method of moulding articles from a continuous strip S, Figs. 1 and 3, of rubber or other plastic material between open pairs of opposed co-operating dies 18, 19 which are carried by a wheel 10, Fig. 1, which moves the dies, one pair after another, to a position opposite the strip, the dies being closed successively under pressure on the strip as shown in Fig. 3 to blank out and deposit in the die cavities pieces P of rubber &c.: as shown the pieces are rings. According to the invention, after each piece has been blanked from the strip the perforated strip is pulled laterally away from the dies, Fig. 4, the strip tearing in that portion thereof which is disposed between the dies and one of its edges. To facilitate the tearing, the' strip may be cut by a cutter provided on the dies, Fig. 5 (not shown). As shown, the strip is blanked out nearer to the lower edge of the strip than to the upper, and is pulled upwardly so that the lower (narrower) margin tears. The perforated torn strip S<SP>1</SP> is carried back to a warming mill M (which forms the strip S) by guide rollers 45 and power-driven rollers 46. As shown, die 19 is stationary and die 18 reciprocates horizontally.
