789,770. Pneumatic tyres. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DES ETABLISSEMENTS MICHELIN. Jan. 11, 1956 [Jan. 14, 1955], No. 1037/56. Class 144 (2). In a pneumatic tyre cover having a tread reinforcement of a number of plies 1 of rubberized, natural or synthetic textile, or metallic wires, threads or cables extending only for the width of the tread, the carcass is devoid of any such reinforcement, at least in the vicinity of the beads 2. Fig. 1 shows the carcass completely devoid of reinforcement, and being formed entirely of natural or synthetic rubber, or suitable plastic, which may be of higher modulus of elasticity than the conventional carcass stock. The walls of such a carcass may be formed thicker than the conventional carcass. In an alternative arrangement a partial reinforcement of nylon, rayon, metal, plastic, spun glass or like threads may be incorporated in the carcass to extend either continuously across the tyre crown from the mid-points of the sidewalls, or, as shown in Fig. 4, a separate reinforcement 4 may be incorporated in each sidewall to extend from the mid-point thereof to a position underlying the adjacent end of the tread reinforcement. In each case, the sidewall ends 5 of the carcass reinforcement may be bent over for firm anchorage with the unreinforced portions of the carcass. Likewise the beads 2 may be wrapped in a narrow band of metal or textile threads. Specifications 628,060, 677,166 and 698,915 are referred to.
