789,266. Batteries. OLDHAM & SON, Ltd., and PROUT, L. R. Oct. 24, 1956 [Jan. 25, 1956], No. 2526/56. Class 53. A cell lid for a multi-cell electric storage battery has knock-out portions of reduced thickness which may be removed so that cell ele- ments can protrude through the lid. Fig. 1 shows a cell lid having a pair of knock-out portions 7 in each marginal part 2 of the lid. Fig. 2 shows the lid in place on the battery with one of each pair of portions 7 removed to accommodate the protruding intercell connectors 11. The knock-out portions may be semi-circular instead of rectangular as shown and additional knock-out portions 9 may be provided. The cell lids may be retained by a layer of sealing compound through which cell testing terminals 10 project.
