Abstract
788,782. Reflective coated fabrics. HALSTEAD, Ltd., J. March 28, 1955 [Dec. 28, 1953], No. 35959/53. Class 140. [Also in Group XX] A light-reflective material has a flexible woven textile backing sheet 1, e.g. closely woven grey cloth, singed or cropped, with a smoothing layer 2, preferably black, i.e. non-reflective, of plastics material, e.g. black polyvinyl chloride paste, thereon. A mirror-like layer 3 of reflective material, e.g. aluminium powder in polyvinyl chloride paste, is applied surmounted by a second translucent layer 4 of plastics material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, methyl methacrylate, or nitrocellulose, preferably polyvinyl chloride solution containing a red dye in a layer 0.003 inch thick. Discrete reflex-reflective particles 5, e.g. minute balls of acrylic polymer, polystyrene, or glass, which may be up to 0.006 inch diameter, are partially embedded in the second layer 4, so as not to pass through to the mirror-like layer, and may be applied by shaker sieve. A third layer 6 of clear plastics material, e.g. polyvinyl chloride solution, say 0.001-0.005 inch thick, encloses the particles, and presents a flat outer surface.
