Classes 79(2), 79(3) and 79(4) [Also in Group XXXII] In an axle suspension for a motor vehicle, a common support for two swinging half axles is resiliently suspended from the superstructure of the vehicle at a point which is displaced longitudinally of the vehicle in relation to the vertical transverse plane through the wheel centres and each of the two half axles is abutted against the vehicle superstructure with the interposition of a spring whose point of abutment in relation to the half axle is disposed in a vertical plane which is inclined in relation to the vertical transverse plane and extends through the point of contact of the wheel with the ground and the point of resilient suspension of the support for the half axles. The point of abutment in relation to the half axle is defined as the point at which the force of the spring is transmitetd to the half axle. As shown, in which swinging halfaxles 17, 18 are pivoted on a common pivot 19 which is resiliently attached to a frame member 14 forwardly of the half axles, the latter are pivotally connected through forwardly and downwardly directed arms 31, 32 to thrust members 25, 26 which are pivoted to a frame member 13 and are sprung against the vehicle frame by coil springs 34, 35, the effective point of abutment of which on the half axles is disposed in a plane A C inclined to the central axis of the half axles and passing through the point of contact of the wheels with the ground. An axle-gear casing forms a part of one half axle 17 which is mounted on the pivot 19 by means of an eye 23 on the casing 22, the other half axle 18 being mounted on the pivot 19 by fork arms 24 which engage the pivot on either side of the eye 23.
