Abstract
787,353. Stair carpet holders. SMITH & DAVIS, Ltd. March 15, 1956 [March 19, 1955], No. 8075/55. Class 52(5) Relates to stair carpet holders of the kind in which an arm swingable in a plane substantially parallel to that of the carpet is pivoted to a bracket attached to a stairway. According to the invention the attachment bracket 10 is substantially U- shaped having a back member 11 by which the bracket is fixed to the stairway and a front member 12 to which an arm 18 is pivoted by a pin 17, and the bracket is so arranged that the carpet edge may lie closely adjacent the members 13 forming the base of the U. The front member 12 has an outward domed projection 16 fitting into a similar projection 20 on the arm 18. A helical spring 22 and a washer 21 are held on the pivot pin 17 by its peened end and projections on the arm 18 engage recesses in the front member 12 so that the arm is held in position by the action of the spring. The front member of the bracket is inclined slightly towards the back member 11 so that the outer end of the arm 18 grips the carpet most effectively.
